Crossway makes such great Bibles, but this is one of the better ones. F or fans of single-column Bibles, the past couple of years have seen some interesting new editions, especially from Crossway. It is such a simple Bible, but has exceptional details that make it super special. Maybe it is the romantic thought of thumbing through grandma’s old Bible years after she’s gone. There is appropriate line spacing, that makes it easy to read. It is a black letter text, with no references and minimal notes. One thing that makes this Bible unique is that they put the headings of the text in the margins. The section titles are off in the margin. However, I never end up using them much. The Preaching Bible is just a few ounces heavier (57.93 ounces). So my friends at Crossway who make incredible Bibles have sent me the ESV Heirloom Single Column Legacy Bible. So having extra ribbons has been helpful for me. Designing the font this way allows a small Bible to remain small all the while looking like it has larger print. I compare it with the original Legacy, Clarion, Singel Column Heritage, and Heirloom Omega. (I hope to review the Legacy in a future post.) Now, one of the most important things for me as a pastor is that when I am preaching and teaching, I need a Bible that will lay flat and stay flat. This Bibles does have a nice concordance in the back. This allows the Bible to help interpret the Bible, which is always the best way to interpret Scripture when possible. The Preaching Bible is the same way because of the goatskin cover, but the Pastor’s Bible and the Thinline Bible have a more rigid, genuine leather cover that works, but will give you a little more trouble.
